(Violinist Jaime Jorge) This is the story of a child prodigy carefully guided by his musician mom into a world filled with the beautiful strains of his own violin—as he practiced hours upon hours each day. But he wanted to be a physician! Then a chance participation in a talent contest at the University brought him to a life-changing decision. But other physical and emotional challenges were ahead. He found himself having to get through each one—while performing before the public! The enormity of the stress-causing dissonance in his own life somehow pales before the powerful insights Jaime shares in his discovery of God’s perspective on his life and talents. You’ll be blessed to hear him speak, and you’ll be captured by his music. . . and you’ll say with the many thousands he has blessed, “To God be the glory!” (go to his website to hear more. It’s www.jaimejorge.com and it’s all about Jaime Jorge ministries international.

At first when you listen to Dan as he shares his adventures in the workaday world, it doesn’t seem there is any politicking involved. But as his story develops, where his little wife slugs one man who was trying to cheat them, and another “friend” bad mouths him to the boss and he loses his position after working for the company a few decades, one wonders how Dan kept his sense of humor! But Dan did what he could to make the best of each situation. One had to wonder how he maintained his warm sense of humor—until you considered he was asked by his betrayer for forgiveness over a decade after the man’s bad-mouthing story cost him his career—yet in practically the next breath, Dan extended unquestioning forgiveness to him! That had to be the source of his Power To Cope—an absolute unquestioning refusal to carry anger in his heart, because he’d invited God to live there instead!

POWER TO COPE GOING THROUGH DARK VALLEYS

When Richard D’Avanzo married his childhood sweetheart he really thought their compatibility would last all their lives. Then his mom died suddenly and that loss caused him to search for answers about life and death. It was a search that led him in a spiritual direction that he found fulfilling–but in which his wife did not have keen interest. After 35 years of marriage, she chose divorce, and he crumpled with the shock of their break-up. What followed was truly the reality of God’s power carrying him through other challenges while he went back to school, got advanced degrees, held seminars on divorce recovery, authored a book about his experiences–and formed another relationship that again ended in a devastating divorce. The insights this man shares are meaningful and profound. He is not living the life of a rejected man, but rather a man who has found his center in the Savior who has proven to him that He is enough in dark valleys.

Freedom to Enslavement

Power to Cope from Freedom to Enslavement – Once again from the files of Power To Cope TV programs in New York, two conversations held long ago were brought out to be shared during the 2010 4th of July celebration in this country. At the time of the original interview, Charlie DeLeo was the “keeper of the flame” of Madam Liberty. His courage in climbing to the height necessary to keep her clean is amazing to think about—certainly demonstrating he had “power to cope.” But it also takes “Power To Cope” to offer visitors who are strangers a copy of “Steps to Christ”, yet Charlie has done exactly that over and over. Perhaps a visitor might turn down the book from someone else, but they didn’t from Charlie! That man had courage for sure! And something more that seemed almost irresistible to Statue of Liberty visitors in his day.

Ours is a free country, with liberty to be cherished, for sure. But the program concluded with an enormous contrast: Noble Alexander was a man who shared God’s word with other people also. His crime was related to his possession of a Bible. And for that he spent long months—even years—as a Cuban Prison Camp Detainee—unable to stand up, confined with others to a cramped position in a box, without benefit of a minimum of sanitary living conditions. Listening to his account a person cannot grasp either the horror that persons go through at times like that…nor do we realize what the meaning of freedom truly is in our country where religious liberty is almost taken for granted! Surely that is a freedom to be cherished along with the power to cope God gives us all. Just listen and you’ll find reason to be thankful!

Power to Cope Working in Foreign Countries – Lynn was a young widow, determined that her children would grow up with an education and a future that would only be possible if funds were available for that purpose. So, leaving her young ones in the care of her mother, she began applying for positions as a governess. Quickly she found opportunities to earn good money in what was promised to be excellent working conditions in other lands—Middle Eastern countries quite a distance from her home. The sacrifice was arranged, but the promised recompense included being treated almost as a slave, and seemed to require her to forget any standard of morality. Her conversation includes some narrow escapes that she knows was only because of God’s deliverance!

Then, completing the program, a conversation that took place long ago with John (Juaquim) Canario from Angola demonstrates one man’s confidence in God—who had delivered him from wartime danger and carried him through adjustments in this country where the language was entirely foreign to him. Once again his trust in God’s gift of Power to Cope carried him through amazing difficulties. This was a delightful conversation that ended happily as this man’s experience in this country eventually created a niche for him and his family that proved of great blessing not only to him but everyone who has been fortunate enough to know him!

Power to Cope Searching for God (from Paganism to Christianity) – Paul Ratsara is a leader of men and women, a spiritual man, devoted to God and recently once again chosen to administer a wide field of work in South Africa and the Indian Ocean Division. He is a mighty man of prayer, and allows God to give him insights as he spends hours daily and nightly seeking God’s guidance. The results are awesome. Additionally incredible is his background. Evidently chosen by God, his early years were marred by a jealous family that found a way to all but destroy his life with deadly poison—but were unable. Confined by his mother to home—to avoid additional danger, his father—the “chief” of the area—decided to teach his son the intricacies of calling on the pagan gods of their Hindu religion. Paul was getting deep into the training—that would have taken him to a position of great local authority—but, again, God intervened and an unread book found on a shelf in their home, was picked up by this young man—whose mind was ever searching for God. Opening the New Testament & Psalms he met Jesus through the pages of the book. Without any human teacher, the Holy Spirit led Paul to surrender his life to the One who loved him enough to die for him. And with that, the rest is history. Hear the story of a brilliant man—a modern-day Paul—transformed by God’s love—who has won not only most of his family to the gospel but thousands of others through his influence!

Power to Cope from Buddha to Christ – Samilia & Anthony

+ PTC in a Convalescent Hospital — Dottie Langdon

Samilia gives a fascinating account of life in Sri Lanka as a young girl in a Buddah-worshipful family. Faithful to the ideas instilled, yet unable to maintain a peaceful spirit as required by that teaching, she would write out her deeds and needs on paper, fold the paper into little boats and let them float down a nearby river. It sounded peaceful, but she was anything BUT peaceful when, with other university students, they discovered missionaries “destroying” their culture with Christian teachings. Her story changed abruptly when the anger within erupted in violence. Yet the missionaries had something within them that was different—and she paused and wondered. Listen to her account and that of Anthony who wisely taught her about Christ and realize the power of God’s Word as written simply in the gospels. You’ll hear how her life was transformed when the simple concept Jesus shared in His word spoke directly to her need.

Finally, in a brief conversation with Dottie, the program ends on a peaceful note from a woman in her 80s…at peace with a future she didn’t choose—but has chosen to accept. She now lives with a variety of other oldsters at various stages of mental acuity, whom she enjoys sending to their own corners or rooms when she tires of having them follow her around. It’s her life and, somehow, she finds power to cope with it, by maintaining her sense of humor and drawing on God’s power regularly!

Divorce is such a common happening in so many lives…but it wouldn’t happen to Mary, or could it? There’d never been a divorce in the family. She’d taken a vow “for better or worse” so years passed with no relief. Never mind that marriage life seemed to be all about what would make him happy. Surely separating for a time would bring back communication and an agreed “model” from God’s word. But what if both DON’T agree on the desire to have God as part of the equation? People–spouses–can change. Finally trust fled, and so did Mary after God spoke to her…a sobering picture–with peace at the end.

“Rita” not only had stress from her husband’s rejection of her for another woman, for being left to raise her children without their father, and for the “other” woman’s audacity when confronted–as if all that was not enough, Rita wrestled openly with God about His willingness to forgive–and the danger of the “other” woman ending up in God’s heaven–because in Rita’s heart there was NOT room for both of them there–and what was God going to do about her hatred??? She challenged God over and over about it. . . . Don’t miss this one!

Alec, the youngest child in his family, literally adored his big brother–who paid attention to him in ways brothers can understand–ways that count for a boy. He was Alec’s defender against neighborhood bullies. The little brother was allowed into big brother’s life–as his “punching bag” on big brother’s way to becoming a black belt. The older brother was a perfectionist who seemed to succeed at anything he would try. Yet, in Alec’s mid-teens, his idolized big brother chose suicide–with utterly no warning in Alec’s mind. The shock decades later still reverberated–and Alec shared the impact with the Power to Cope listeners–as he awakened to the peace that only God can give in releasing burdensome memories into the hands of God who alone can help one reject tormenting thoughts through the power of Jesus Christ.
