God steadied her, and brought escape after her first marriage of 22 years with a man whose brutality came to be expected when he was drinking. Their growing-up children helped her escape his infidelity and mistreatment. Several years later the “spiritual leader” she then married revealed himself as a controlling tyrant with a troubled mind. Six women had been married to him before she was (she learned after the fact). He led a double life of unfaithfulness toward her and God. Now Chavella leads a professional life ministering as counselor, author and instructor. She’s at peace. God is enough.

Dan’s story touches your own bewildered heart, as you realize there ARE children raised in cars, with food thrown to them as though they are animals, and punishments including being kept in bed for months at a time–with no protection from those who are called their parents. Longing changed to growing up way too fast with determination to be different and live above his past. Between army and a girl friend’s Christian family who gave him respect–plus a very wise pastor–Dan was introduced to life with a real family–like a love gift from God’s heart. His prayer at the end gives reason for his sharing. Do listen!

Lois Griffin lived with horror, imagined and real. When her two month old baby’s life was snuffed out with the Silent Infant Death Syndrome, the baby’s father’s escape went to drugs, alcohol and accusations that she had murdered their baby…Time passed, another child was born. The abuse was overwhelming. Her search for answers led her to initiate a support group for SIDS.She learned how to risk loving, and for years provided the little one’s sole support. She invited Christ in and became no longer afraid of being alone, or in the dark. Now she lives to serve others….and does so almost around the clock in a happy marriage!

POWER TO COPE GOING THROUGH DARK VALLEYS

When Richard D’Avanzo married his childhood sweetheart he really thought their compatibility would last all their lives. Then his mom died suddenly and that loss caused him to search for answers about life and death. It was a search that led him in a spiritual direction that he found fulfilling–but in which his wife did not have keen interest. After 35 years of marriage, she chose divorce, and he crumpled with the shock of their break-up. What followed was truly the reality of God’s power carrying him through other challenges while he went back to school, got advanced degrees, held seminars on divorce recovery, authored a book about his experiences–and formed another relationship that again ended in a devastating divorce. The insights this man shares are meaningful and profound. He is not living the life of a rejected man, but rather a man who has found his center in the Savior who has proven to him that He is enough in dark valleys.

Power to Cope Searching for God (from Paganism to Christianity) – Paul Ratsara is a leader of men and women, a spiritual man, devoted to God and recently once again chosen to administer a wide field of work in South Africa and the Indian Ocean Division. He is a mighty man of prayer, and allows God to give him insights as he spends hours daily and nightly seeking God’s guidance. The results are awesome. Additionally incredible is his background. Evidently chosen by God, his early years were marred by a jealous family that found a way to all but destroy his life with deadly poison—but were unable. Confined by his mother to home—to avoid additional danger, his father—the “chief” of the area—decided to teach his son the intricacies of calling on the pagan gods of their Hindu religion. Paul was getting deep into the training—that would have taken him to a position of great local authority—but, again, God intervened and an unread book found on a shelf in their home, was picked up by this young man—whose mind was ever searching for God. Opening the New Testament & Psalms he met Jesus through the pages of the book. Without any human teacher, the Holy Spirit led Paul to surrender his life to the One who loved him enough to die for him. And with that, the rest is history. Hear the story of a brilliant man—a modern-day Paul—transformed by God’s love—who has won not only most of his family to the gospel but thousands of others through his influence!

Divorce is such a common happening in so many lives…but it wouldn’t happen to Mary, or could it? There’d never been a divorce in the family. She’d taken a vow “for better or worse” so years passed with no relief. Never mind that marriage life seemed to be all about what would make him happy. Surely separating for a time would bring back communication and an agreed “model” from God’s word. But what if both DON’T agree on the desire to have God as part of the equation? People–spouses–can change. Finally trust fled, and so did Mary after God spoke to her…a sobering picture–with peace at the end.
